Quick Activity: Find Leaves & Compare

Fall is on its way, and with it brings the beautiful changing of the leaves on our trees and plant life.

Because some leaves are already starting to change, and some haven't quite yet changed, this is a great time to get outside, search for a handful of leaves, and compare them.

Look for leaves on all sorts of plants and trees, lay them out and observe, touch, and smell.

Here are some things to look for:

• Color
• Texture
• Odor
• Hardiness
• Size
• Shape
• Veins

What other things do you notice about the leaves?

If you would like to incorporate an art project into this activity, texture rubbings are always fun! When you are finished, extend the life of your leaves by putting them into a glass of water and place on your table for a fun, fall leaf bouquet.

We would love to see photos of your child's leaf comparisons! Share with us on Instagram @theideaboxkids
